Firearms Course Description

The NRA Basic Pistol Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills and and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.  This course is 8 hours long and includes both classroom and range time.  Students will learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition overview, shooting fundamentals, range rules, shooting from the bench rest position and two handed standing positions, cleaning the pistol and continued opportunities for skill development.


Students will receive the NRA Guide to Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Brochure and the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet Students will also take a basics of pistol shooting student examination and, at the completion of the course receive a completion certificate.

  • Assessments - Receive an acceptable score on a basic pistol shooting course examination.
